Born in Nassau. Childhood in the Capital. Teen years in Freeport. Hop-scotched across The Bahamas for years after. Spent 20+ years in corporate PR, then embraced my fears and took the plunge to become a full-time creative. Now, while pursuing my MFA, I throw clay and tell tales on paper. That's the Cliffs Notes version. For the unabridged edition, we'll need to sit for coffee.
My writing is centred on my love for Bahamian heritage and a desire to revel in our storytelling nature. I call on our rich folklore as both a foundation and a springboard for my own tales. Is "Tingum In Da Bush" dangerous? Mischievous? Misunderstood? My tales feature a kaleidoscope of what it means to be Bahamian by using magical settings that ultimately open the doors to empathy.
As a ceramic artist, my sculptural and functional pottery has been shown in local and national art exhibits. Just like with my writing, my ceramic pieces tell their own stories. In addition to fine art pieces, I create a variety of items in our local craft market as an authentic Bahamian alternative to generic mass-produced souvenirs.
